Vance & Hines Shortshots Staggered Exhaust Black 47233

Vance & Hines has a proven track record of producing high quality and low price performance parts. For this Shortshots Staggered Exhaust Black 47233 review, we took the bike for a test ride to get the feel of the exhaust system and report any problems that we found. We attached the the exhaust before we made a ride, leaving the silencer attached to the pipe. During the test ride, we immediately noticed a sound of the bike’s muffler being shifted out of the way by the exhaust. During heavy acceleration, the exhaust lost its presence and you had to listen very closely to hear the exhaust sound of the exhaust system. The sound of the exhaust has a characteristic of a quiet two-stroke street bike exhaust. It is definitely not a barky factory exhaust but there is no noise from the silencer.

Product Features

Origins: 1995 Vance & Hines meets Harley Davidson: The new Shortshots Staggered exhaust system from Vance & Hines is a 2 piece, 2 way short-stout exhaust system. The all black surface is a result of a heat-treating process that gives the steel very good resistance to corrosion. This particular exhaust system has been refined to work with custom installations for both the professional and casual street/strip motorcycle rider. Vance & Hines is well known for the quality of their exhaust systems and the best thing about this product is that they are available at a price that makes this product accessible to a large portion of the motorcycle community. Ceramic coated, heat resistant heat shield is shipped along with the system.

Product Performance

Made of race-quality ceramic and aluminum, these performance exhausts are supposed to last longer than just one year. Whether your shop does the work or you are on the job yourself, all of the components are meant to last a lifetime. Durable aluminum heat shields keep the heat of the exhaust heat at bay and provide a cleaner exhaust. The silencer completes the mechanical package and provides the exhaust with a sinister silhouette. What we particularly liked was the lack of pipe bends for this exhaust, especially if you are on the job. The pipe bends provide a negative aesthetic (particularly to those looking for a functional black exhaust) and provides more backpressure.

Apart from the stock steel casing exhaust, the Shortshots Staggered also comes with a pair of stainless steel mufflers. The exhaust features three individual length pipes. It is, in fact, more accurate to say the Shortshots Staggered exhaust is three shorter pipes. Vance & Hines don’t just cut away the stock pipes to install shorter pipe. No, they fully upgrade and wrap the entire unit with heat shielding, chassis parts, stainless steel pipes, high flow cat-back mufflers, blackening, stainless steel tank caps and a chrome handgrip that also comes standard. In addition, they offer a sound and performance enhancement kit that makes a huge difference in the motorbike sound and performance.

– Black Polymer Heat Shield – The black ceramic coating is almost completely black and has a distinctive white fleck pattern that is smooth to the touch. The black also contrasts nicely with the stock color. The very fact that it is heat shield, not die-cast metal, make it lighter in weight than the standard black heat shield. It’s about the same weight as the stock heat shield, but with no weight penalty for the mods it’s just plain cool. The polymer components of the heat shield are made of an aerospace-grade material that is highly durable and does not crack or warp. – Integrated Hood Hinge – The addition of a removable front hood hanger makes installation of this exhaust system very simple. – Scrambler Style – Another aspect that makes this exhaust very cool is the styling.

Product Performance

The Hine U-tube chassis exhaust systems that come on the Shortshots Staggered system can be installed in their four main locations: The throat in the tail The rear cylinder cover exhaust port The throat in the gas tank, where you would find a hand throttle The external muffler system port Some of the add-ons that are available for the rider include the following: Titanium post fitting Offset or bladed throttle Spade style mounting Torsion bar mount Since there are no fancy housings on these exhausts, it means you can have as many as you wish. If you look at the options that are available, you will find most of them are quite hefty and quite lengthy. It means that it will add a lot of weight to the bike.

How to install Vance and Hines Short Shots

To fit the Vance and Hines Short Shots motorcycle exhaust system, the exhaust pipe has to be modified slightly. The exhaust length should be adjusted to about 450mm. The exhaust is bent to fit into the rear brake pipe. I purchased a steel pipe for this modification, but a rubber pipe can also be used. Weld the rubber pipe to the existing exhaust before you mount the exhaust system. My modification process: 1. Weld the rubber pipe to the exhaust pipe. 2. Install the rear brake pipe adapter and brake lines. 3. Adjust the front brake hose and adjust the cable clamp. 4. Hook up the exhaust to the bike. 5. Install the engine exhaust (black tank) It’s easy to install, easy to maintain and will give your bike a big boost of power.

The performance of the bike

The big time performance of the Vance and Hines Short Shots is very noticeable on a Harley Sportster. The increased speed with improved maneuverability make riding the bike fun. The performance is also impressive with the complete system. I have ridden a 1994 Harley Sportster for many years. When I installed the Vance and Hines Short Shots system, my bike rode like a brand new bike with a lot of horsepower. The bike now has a more powerful engine at the same time it becomes safer and more maneuverable. The bike still rides smooth and has a smooth bike sound which make the bike enjoyable to ride at any time.

What are the benefits of using Vance and Hines Short Shots?

1. Improves flow 2. Provides full exhaust coverage 3. Reduces air resistance 4. Active magnetic forces allow for optimum operation 5. Lower rpms, optimal for performance 6. Equivalent to larger systems 7. High-quality system 8. Quiet 9. No tube to replace 10. Option of superior shorty headers for a less expensive price What do I look for when I am deciding if a motorcycle accessory is right for my motorcycle? I look for the best solution for my bike and budget. It can be very easy to get sucked into a bunch of smaller issues with the same vendor but with the best solution. I try to find products that are going to improve my rider experience in one of two areas, “comfort” (feel on the bike), or “performance.” Some people may define comfort as a cheap chair.

On February 16th, 2019 I received the following message from a friend, Rob Taggart. I had a thought this morning when I read Mike’s account of his experience.
